Pierre Gerber

Dr. Pierre Gerber is a senior Livestock Policy Officer at the Food and Agriculture Organization’s Animal Production and Health Division (AGA). He earned a PhD in agriculture economics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich and has over 10 years experience analyzing global livestock sector trends and their environmental impacts. His work at AGA broadly covers the roles of resource use in livestock systems, livestock in climate change, and environmental services in extensive production systems.  He also coordinates AGA’s ongoing work identifying low emission development options for the livestock sector. Dr. Gerber has been directly involved in the technical analyses for and writing of three of AGA’s most recent major publications, “Livestock’s long shadow – Environmental issues and options” (2006); “State of Food and Agriculture 2009: Livestock in the balance,” and “Livestock in a changing landscape: Experiences and Regional Perspectives” (2010).
