Instagram Live: Rooted

A special conversation with Adetoro Makinde (co-director/producer), Bridget Besaw (director), and Germaine Jenkins (urban farmer) of Rooted, a documentary film about food apartheid in America coming out this fall. The film follows the story of Germaine Jenkins, a rising star activist and urban farmer in Charleston, South Carolina and her 5 year quest to gain ownership of the .8 parcel of land where her urban farm Fresh Future Farm sits. The film tracks Germaine’s battle against massive obstacles—physical, racial, legal, political, and systemic—as she petitions Charleston’s local government to either extend her farm’s lease or give her ownership of the plot.
