On Saturday, April 18, Slow Food DC will host its annual Snail of Approval Award Party to honor the chefs, farmers, brewers, distillers, artisans, and vintners who received the 2015 Snail of Approval .
Each year, Slow Food DC awards the Snail of Approval to local providers who are making a significant contribution to improving the food system. By celebrating these model providers, Slow Food DC highlights the importance of the Slow Food philosophy of good, clean, and fair food.
Slow Food DC bases the Snail of Approval award on three criteria: quality, authenticity, and sustainability. Quality food not only tastes good, but benefits the individual and the surrounding community. Authentic food is natural, true to its source, and ecologically and culturally appropriate. Sustainable food minimizes all negative consequences of production, meaning that it protects and preserves the environment, treats animals humanely and workers fairly, and is accessible to all.
This year’s Snail of Approval award recipients include Boundary Road, Coppi’s Organic, From the Farmer, Gravel Springs Farm, Market Burger, and Port City Brewing Company. Find the full list of award recipients here.
The Snail of Approval Award Party will be held at RIS restaurant in Washington, D.C., and will give participants the chance to mingle with those individuals shaping the future of food in the D.C. community while enjoying a locally-sourced menu. Tickets for the event are available here.
