Twenty percent of food purchases in the United Kingdom go straight into the bin. According to the campaign, Love Food Hate Waste, seven million tons of food and drink are tossed annually in the UK alone– most of which is perfectly edible.
The recently launched Food Is… project documents what is actually being done to combat food waste by showcasing solutions. Beyond hosting a number of stunning photo journals, the site shares information on food waste and profiles of organizations doing great things to waste less.
The project is the creation of Documentary Photographer Chris King. Since his days as a grassroots activist, Chris has been following issues surrounding food waste for the past 14 years. “I started my project with a desire to raise awareness about the many and varied solutions to food waste which are currently being implemented, and which if supported and nurtured, could do so much more to reduce the amount of food that goes to waste.”
