Great Basin Community Food Co-op
Great Basin Community Food Co-op (CBCFC) promotes the development of a local food system that will allow residents of the Great Basin area to have broad access to local and organic food. All GBCFC products are sourced from within their local “foodsheds,” the three closest river systems and their watersheds. The cooperative began as a buyer’s club offering its consumers natural foods but has since grown to open a storefront serving much of northern Nevada.
Nevada Food for Thought provides food for hungry children in Carson City, NV and its surrounding areas. They send bags of nutritious food over the weekends to hungry children in 20 schools.
NevadaGrown supports sustainable agriculture in Nevada by promoting businesses that use local agriculture and farmers markets that sell food directly from local farmers. The organization strives to educate communities about the benefits of local foods, while improving communication between farmer and consumers to create and maintain a sustainable food system.
Southern Nevada Food Council aims to bring together various stakeholders in southern Nevada’s food system to promote a culture of sustainable food production and consumption. The organization recognizes and aims to emphasize in their education and policy work the interdependent and inseparable relationships among the various sectors involved in the food system, from consumption to production to waste disposal.
Vegas Roots Community Garden serves as an urban farm in Las Vegas, NV. The garden grows fresh, organic crops and offers youth leadership programs in the city.
Western Sustainable Agriculture Working Group
Western Sustainable Agriculture Working Group is a nonprofit organization in Austin, NV that connects western promoters of sustainable agriculture to each other and to the region. The organization engages in issue development on agricultural policy in the western region and provides education to its members regarding sustainable agricultural issues, skill development, and networking.
