This November 6th-8th, the Women’s Food and Agriculture Network (WFAN) will be hosting its Fourth National Conference for Women in Sustainable Agriculture in Des Moines, Iowa.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Cultivating Our Food, Farms and Future,” with more than 40 workshops to choose from over two days, as well as optional additional tours of farms in the area, intensive trainings, and a play directed by Iowa Poet Laureate Mary Swander.
Workshops offer capacity building and skills training in farming, business management, and broader food systems work. Topics cover the full spectrum of a sustainable farming lifestyle, from “Mastering the Maze of Federal Programs” and “Organizing for Food & Diversity” to “Mixed Marriage on the Farm: When Your Partner Isn’t A Farmer.”
The Keynote Speakers for this year are Danielle Nierenberg of Food Tank, Pakou Hang of the Hmong American Farmers Association, and Kari Hamerschlag of Environmental Working Group.
