Berry Good Food Foundation is hosting the Berry Good Night 100 event on September 23, 2017, at La Jolla Farms in San Diego, California. For the last seven years, the Berry Good Night event has “celebrated local growers, ranchers, and producers, along with championing the ideology of sustainable food.” It is a TEDx-style event inviting the sustainable food community for an evening of conscious conversation with an aim to spark discussion, education, awareness, and action. The event invites 100 idea ambassadors who aim to bring about significant change in the food system. This year, Food Tank President Danielle Nierenberg will be the featured speaker for the event.
Michelle Lerach began the Berry Good Night event and founded its nonprofit arm, the Berry Good Food Foundation, in 2010 and 2016, respectively. The Berry Good Food Foundation focuses on creating an integrated food system where “people can choose local, and sustainably produced food,” the website states. They have hosted multidisciplinary panel discussions, school pilot programs, and farm dinners. Berry Good Food Foundation believes educating, connecting, and supporting the food producers and consumers will lead to awareness, informed decisions, and positive behavioral changes that would drive the transformation towards sustainable food system.
The Berry Good Night 100 event will begin with discussing topics related to food sustainability issues such as effects of meat production, reducing food waste, making the best seafood choices, food insecurity, and regenerative agriculture. Representatives from different food and sustainability related fields such as chefs, farmers, academicians, experts, students, and activists will also contribute to a transformative dialogue for the evening. Attendees are encouraged to partake in the preparation of their own food and will also be treated to San Diego’s inventive chefs’ creations.
All the proceeds generated through ticket sales will benefit the Berry Good Food Foundation programs. The event will waive off event fee for guests from food-related professions and businesses while other attendees can also sponsor guests for the event.
