As of January 1, 2022, the USDA requires all manufacturers and retailers to disclose on its packaging whether a food has been "bioengineered."

The USDA’s new National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard (NBFDS) took full effect on January 1, 2022, mandating that all food manufacturers, importers and other entities that label foods for retail sale disclose information about bioengineered (BE) food, doing away with well-established terms like “genetically engineered” and “GMO” on labels.
