Kathlee Freeman has been a contributing writer to Food Tank since 2013. Her interest in food stems from research she helped conduct with the YMCA about obesity and community support for health initiatives. Since then, she has worked with a variety of nonprofits conducting research, writing grants, managing and developing programs and overseeing communications. She serves on the board of directors for the St. Louis chapter of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network and Immigrant & Refugee Women's Program. She is also an advisory board member to the Women, Food and Agriculture Network and sits on the Editorial Review Committee for the Journal of Agriculture, Food Systems and Community Development. Currently, she is a master's candidate at the University of Missouri - Columbia in the Rural Sociology Department while also working towards a graduate certificate in geographic information science. Her research focus includes techology use and access to markets for smallholder farmers. She also works with University of Missouri's Interdisciplinary Center for Food Security.
