Greetings from New York City!
We are here tonight to host the first in a series of upcoming Food Tank events that will take us from coast to coast across the United States. These events will bring together incredible speakers and moderators around the issue of how to increase food access, affordability, and equity in the food system.
In New York this evening, we are partnering with the New York University Steinhardt School, Great Performances Catering, and Salon.com with support from Facebook’s Community Leadership Program to feature the first of four fireside discussions with Joel Berg, CEO of Hunger Free America; Qiana Mickie, Executive Director of Just Food; Raymond Figueroa, Jr., President of the New York City Community Garden Coalition; and Noreen Springstead, Executive Director at WhyHunger. This discussion will be moderated by myself along with Manny Howard of Salon.com, Ellen J. Wulfhorst of Reuters, and Chloe Sorvino of Forbes.
The event is sold out, but you can join the waitlist by clicking HERE. All four discussions will be posted free on my twice weekly new podcast, “Food Talk with Dani Nierenberg,” so please go now and subscribe HERE. We also have several FREE monthly events planned in New York City that you can still register to attend by clicking HERE.
Our tour heads next to San Francisco on May 29, where Food Tank is partnering with Mother Jones for an evening featuring Tanya Holland, Brown Sugar Kitchen; Leigh Gaymon-Jones, Castanea Fellowship; Alice Waters, the Edible Schoolyard Project; Paul Willis, Niman Ranch; and some incredible surprise guests to be announced. Moderaters will include myself, Justin Phillips of the San Francisco Chronicle, and Tom Philpott of Mother Jones.
Some tickets are still available for San Francisco (on sale for $25) and include post-event nibbles and beverages (this won’t last long, as we’ve been blown away by overwhelming local interest). Learn more by clicking HERE.
As always, Food Tank members attend all our events for free, click here to JOIN.
After San Francisco, we continue our partnership with Mother Jones and head to Los Angeles on June 5 at the Dynasty Typewriter. The evening will include Gustavo Arellano, Features Writer at the Los Angeles Times; Fran Drescher, Actress and Founder of Cancer Schmancer; Ron Finley, the “Guerrilla Gardener;” and Chris Sayer of Petty Ranch. I will moderate along with Michele Stueven, LA Weekly; Maddie Oatman, Mother Jones; and more incredible surprise guests to be announced!
Tickets will go on sale for the next 48 hours for $25. You can purchase them HERE.
While we try to price tickets to our events reasonably, we are also able to provide unlimited partial and full scholarship opportunities for farmers, nonprofit workers, students, and other important stakeholders. If you or anyone you invite needs help with the cost of the tickets, please email Vanesa at vanesa@foodtank.com, and we will find a way to make it possible for you to attend. Our mission is to make our events as accessible to everyone as possible!
And we are working on additional events in other cities! Stay tuned!
Thank you for all your help in making this possible! Please do consider joining Food Tank as a member today by clicking HERE.
Not only will all our events be free to attend, we also have a beautiful surprise welcome gift for members who join today!
