Grow Dat Youth Farm, based in New Orleans, Louisiana, is seeking a new Executive Director. The role is intended to lead the team, support young leaders, and form and maintain strong partnerships with organizations working to make New Orleans a more just place for all.
Grow Dat’s mission is to nurture a diverse group of young leaders through the meaningful work of growing food. The organization promotes sustainability, inclusion, leadership, food justice, and unity. The farm employs 50 youth in their leadership programs and produces more than 5,000 kilograms (12,000 pounds) of produce. Seventy percent of the produce is sold at stands, markets, and through community supported agriculture, while thirty percent is given to low-income residents.
“At Grow Dat, you’re not just learning about food, you’re also learning about yourself,” said Carnisha, a 2012 Graduate of the Leadership Program, “I feel like I really discovered who I was and became more confident in what I’m able to do. It’s really a life-changing experience, through the work of growing food.”
In July 2017, Executive Director Johanna Gilligan stepped down to take a position at Harvard University. Grow Dat is looking for someone with experience building relationships and growing nonprofit organizations, who is committed to social justice and youth leadership.
