In support of the White House’s National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health, Food Tank and the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University organized the “Advancing Food is Medicine Approaches” Summit in Boston, Massachusetts. A report coming out of the event summarizes key findings and recommendations from the discussions.
The Biden-Harris Administration released their National Strategy in the Fall of 2022 to end hunger, increase healthy eating and physical activity, and reduce diet-related diseases. In the months since the Strategy’s release, the White House has called on stakeholders across food and agriculture systems to develop commitments that will drive progress around these goals.
The “Advancing Food is Medicine Approaches” Summit was held to identify barriers that hinder the implementation of Pillars 2 and 5 of the National Strategy—integrating nutrition and health and strengthening research on food and nutrition security—and discuss opportunities to fill these gaps. The event was also used to raise awareness of and inspire new efforts and collaborations to advance food is medicine interventions and encourage new commitments in support of the National Strategy.
